It’s summer time in the Philippines. Just a few days ago, I saw the happy faces of kids after there last class in school. What I saw was actually more than the look of relief. They were energized with the excitement brought by the long school break.
It seemed just yesterday. But remembering my days in school made me reminisce about my times as a student. Yes. I was one of those kids. Every summer, I looked forward to a vacation. A time at the beach. Weeks at my grandfather’s farm. Days in the big city.
Sitting on my chair and watching the late afternoon sun, what I remembered best vividly was those times I spent with my childhood friends. Playing soldiers. Camping out. Watching movies at my neighbor’s place. Lying on the sweet grasses. These were ordinary things but it meant so much to me and my friends. It was all fun. We run together. We played hide and seek together. What more could we ask. We even played under the glowing moonlight.
I truly believed that every kid on this earth should have fun by sweating it out under the sun. I have nothing against video games but it’s sad to know that these gadgets had taken over the time of most children in the planet. It also ate adult moments as well.
Picnics, roaming around the neighborhood, doing piggy back rides, climbing trees, these were the moments that count. I believed that it would be worth noting that there has been no substitute for activities like these. Bonding with parents, brothers, sisters, friends, relatives, never has quality time been significant most especially in a time-pressed era.
